Hello, delegates!
My name is Bagneten Bakoyema, and I am incredibly honored to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General for LIMUNXXXVIII!
In the three years I have participated in LIMUN, both as a delegate and as a chair, it has become one of the most memorable experiences in my time at LAMP. My freshman and sophomore years, I was in the Crisis Control Committee and got a taste of the wonders of applying the diplomacy and procedure of collaborative debate to imaginative crisis situations and fell in love with it. I then chaired the Crisis Control Committee my junior year and was able to recreate the invaluable experiences I’d had for the very lucky members of my committee. In this way, LIMUN has both taught me how to make my voice heard and fostered my own innovation and creativity, and I cannot wait to share these experiences in LIMUNXXXVIII.
On a more personal note, here are some fun facts about me:
I love baking really obscene amounts of baked goods and forcing them onto my friends and neighbors (my personal favorites to make are macarons and brioche)
I very strongly believe that no run will ever beat an autumn run that ends at sunset
I have, in my life, achieved great feats of binge-watching television shows (I cannot elaborate further, for the sake of my safety)
Now, to balance that out, here are some un-fun, really mundane facts:
I speak one (1) language fluently: English (of the American variety)
I run (for fun, which is very un-fun)
I sleep (usually for a certain portion of the day)
Now, back to the main event: LIMUN. I believe that cultural and political differences between people are a major part of what makes LIMUN so challenging and so engaging, and I value competition just as much as collaboration. In committee, I encourage delegates to protect their character or nation’s individual and often conflicting views and values as resolutions are sought. I hope most of all to see open-minded and efficient discussion and respectful treatment of our chairs and other delegates. I look forward to seeing you all!
Best wishes,
Bagneten Bakoyema
Deputy Secretary-General of LIMUNXXXVIII
