Hey, delegates!
My name is Sydney An, and I’m beyond excited to serve as your Secretary-General for LIMUN XXXVIII!
I’ve loved LIMUN ever since I first walked into committee as a totally lost freshman: figuring out how motions worked whilst juggling extemporaneous speeches was such a new and exciting experience, and I was so ready for more. Learning how to collaborate with others—by forming blocs and furiously hammering out resolution drafts—and sharpening my public speaking skills—especially as a D1 yapper—was truly invaluable. From working out the best way to institute killer bees in the Purge Committee to adapting to the challenges of chairing the UN Environment Programme, LIMUN has been a part of my high school career from the very beginning.
And now, here are the top four fun facts about me in no particular order:
I can ski. Surprisingly, I have not tripped on a rock and tumbled off a mountain in all my years of flying down the slopes—knock on wood
Ten-hour long video essays about extremely obscure topics have my whole entire heart
You should read Witch Hat Atelier. Don’t ask, just read!
Unlike my beloved Deputy Secretary-General, I cannot run to save my life. Two flights of stairs is enough for me to question my very existence
Our Secretariat members this year are some of the most hard-working and intelligent people I know, and it has been a privilege working with them to bring you one of the best high school MUN conferences in the state. Whether you are a new delegate with a fear of public speaking or a veteran looking for a challenge, LIMUN, above all else, is designed to make you feel comfortable and safe expressing your thoughts in a world where polarization has trumped collaboration. While two days of debate won’t be enough to solve the world’s problems, the skills you’ll gain—collaboration, open-mindedness, out-of-the-box thinking—are invaluable, even if talking about the political and economic state of the world is not your forte.
I absolutely cannot wait to see everyone in committee. Until then!
Kind Regards,
Sydney An
Secretary-General of LIMUNXXXVIII
