Welcome, delegates, to LIMUN XXXVIII!
My name is Rik and I’m excited to serve as a specialized committee chair this year. I’m a senior at LAMP and I hope to make this conference a fun and exciting experience for you all.
Speaking of fun, the Interdimensional Criminal Tribunal is, by nature, not as serious of a committee as the ones that simulate real UN bodies. However, this should express itself only in the content of our speeches and not in the decorum we present. We’re all high schoolers, and I expect each of you to respect the program, the parliamentary procedure, and each other.
That said, I’m looking forward to hearing some interesting and unconventional argumentation, and I think this committee is a wonderful opportunity to push your skills to the limit or play devil’s advocate on a lighthearted topic.
As for my personal side:
I’m really into debate (LD Chair for 2 years now) and my hobbies include playing the clarinet and making video edits.
I like pretty much every school subject, and in my free time, I read a lot and game with my friends.
I’m an Oscar Wilde fan (The Portrait of Dorian Gray is peak writing).
My music taste is way too expansive to sum up, but it ranges from Kendrick to Coldplay to Chappell Roan, if that helps.
One last note: As you enter this conference, I want you to remember that your participation means everything to make this event fun. Trust me, I understand the struggle of public speaking, but if you just come prepared and ready to work, it’ll make a world of difference. I would rather you speak and be wrong than be miserable in the back of the room. LIMUN can be incredibly eye-opening and engaging if you just give it a chance! I look forward to seeing you all!
Best wishes,
Rik Roy
